Instant Kill 006:01-B Into the City

The weeds on the grasslands have turned completely yellow. The wind rolling through the grass looked like waves on the sea.

Guo Shier, riding on horseback, asked, “Master, are we still going to West Rune Sect? Isn’t it too late already? We’ve been delayed way too long.”

Luo Jie smiled and answered, “It’s not too late yet. We’re taking a shortcut. Besides, the event in the West Rune Sect isn’t that big of a big deal. We’re just going there to increase your knowledge and give you a chance to grow up.”

A satisfied look covered Luo Jie’s face. “Our luck is surprisingly good even though we acted on impulse,” he continued. “Not only did we find a Secret Realm gateway— we also found an altar that can promote advancement. Shier, you’re my little lucky star. Hahaha!”

Guo Shier was touched. “This has nothing to do with my blessing,” he said. “But I appreciate my teachers’ appreciation.”

“Master,” he continued. “Should we follow the waterway?”

Luo Jie nodded.

Luo Jie now appeared like a middle-aged man. He looked high-spirited, without the aura of the elderly. He was a different person.

“It’s snowing!” Ying Mo suddenly yelled.

The snow fell down swirling and slowly covered the grasslands. In less than one hour, the land was completely covered and biting winds mingled with snowflakes.

Guo Shier was very afraid of the cold. He quickly put on a large coat and big fur hat while on horseback.

Ying Mo stared at him while he wrapped himself into a warm ball. Confused, he asked, “Shier, are you afraid of the cold?”

Guo Shier—now completely wrapped with only his eyes exposed—sheepishly replied, “Yes, I am a southerner. Of course I’m afraid of the cold.”

Ying Mo was wearing only a very thin leather gown. He did not fear the snow and biting wind. Qi Nanshan was even more shocking. He wasn’t even wearing a leather robe—only a thin sleeveless shirt.

Everyone was wearing less than Guo Shier. Even Chen Hong was hardier than him.

Guo Shier secretly complained. Even with the special rune armor, he still felt the cold.

While on the horseback, the oncoming winds felt like ice needles. He couldn’t keep his eyes open.

“Uncle Ying Mo!” he shouted. “Help me with my horse. I can’t see the front.”

Ying Mo held back his laughter. “Don’t worry, I’m here,” he replied. “The horse will be fine. Fortunately, that horses came from the grasslands. If it was a southern horse, I’m afraid it will freeze to death in a moment.”

The horses struggled in the boundless grassland until they finally arrived at the campsite.

Ying Mo helped Guo Shier down from his horse, as he was frozen stiff. The group made fun of him a few times.

Guo Shier proceeded to sit in front of the fire and exclaimed, “I’m so relieved! Fuck, even with the rune armor I’m freezing. The snow in the grassland is terrible. Why don’t you guys feel cold?”

Ying Mo laughed. “I’m used to it. If you travel the grasslands every year, you wouldn’t be afraid of the cold.  Actually, this snow is nothing. If we encounter a snowstorm—that’s deadly. Hahaha!”

“Please don’t let me encounter a snowstorm!” Guo Shier wished.

“Don’t be afraid,” Luo Jie assured him. “It will be at least two months before a snowstorm emerges. It will not happen anytime soon.”

Qin Lang laughed. “If it was snowstorm season, we won’t even traverse the grasslands. After all, it will take a month to go to the West Rune Sect. Hahaha!”

Guo Shier said, “We have a month to go? Ugh, kill me now!”

Everyone couldn’t help but laugh, too.

“You shouldn’t be sad for your little life,” Ying Mo quipped.

Luo Zhan wasn’t supportive, either. “Get used to it, Shier. In the future, we will go to the extreme north. It’s not warmer than here. It’s also a very cold place.”

***

After more than a month of the bitter cold suffering, the horses finally entered the boundary of the West Rune Sect.

The West Rune Sect’s fortification faced the grasslands, its back against the mountains. The city was surrounded by hundreds of miles of tall walls over 60 meters high. The magnificent splendor could be seen from afar.

Guo Shier was relived to see the West Rune City walls. “My God, it’s finally here!” he exclaimed.

Everyone was tired from continuously camping for a month.

“Xiao Feng, ride ahead and inform them,” Luo Jie said. “Don’t weaken the name of our North Rune Sect!”

Xiao Feng is already Marked Warrior Grandmaster. Along the way, Luo Jie started giving them some advanced Marked Warrior Grandmaster cultivating Rune marks. Although they haven’t been practicing with the cultivating system, it let them stabilize the beginner Marked Warrior Grandmaster stage.

With two Marked Warrior Masters, Xiao Feng rode his horse towards the gates.

“Let’s slow down,” Luo Jie said.

He slightly tightened the reins. Everyone did the same.

Guo Shier was tightly wrapped with three big leather robes. He was also wearing his rune armor set. His plump appearance made him look bigger than Ying Mo.

***

The horses soon arrived at the gates of West Rune City. A team of West Rune Sect men— led by a Beast Warrior Master—received them by the gate. They stood respectfully beside Xiao Feng.

In West Rune Sect, strength was everything—and there was a special rule. If a junior professional dared to challenge a senior professional, he had to be prepared for death. This rarely occurred, although the disciples of West Rune Sect often challenged the disciples of other Sects.

“I’m Hou Chen of West Rune Sect, Inner Sect Disciple,” said a man by the gate. Welcome, distinguished guests.”

Qi Nanshan stepped forward and asked indifferently, “Are the other representatives of the North Sect all here?”

Hou Chen was slightly surprised for a moment because he couldn’t see the depth of Qi Nanshan. This man seemed like an ordinary human being, but he was representing the North Rune Sect team. He didn’t dare to be disrespectful.

“They’ve all arrived a few days ago,” he replied. “They came from the waterways. Some came through from the mountains.”

Guo Shier interrupted. “It’s freezing. Can we hurry up?”

Hou Chen was surprised to see a fully wrapped Guo Shier within the group. He thought it was a child’s voice, but he couldn’t really tell. “The Inner Sect has already been instructed to receive you,” he answered. “I have already arranged for a place for you to stay. Please follow me.”

He rode his horse in front of the North Rune Sect delegation.

The streets were crowded and very lively. As the largest city in the West, it was populated by millions of people.

Guo Shier noticed that the streets were wider—so wide that more than a dozen horses can run side-by-side. Pedestrians could also pass comfortably on both sides.

“Shier, the people here are agressive,” Luo Jie said. “It’s very easy to get into trouble. Remember, once there is conflict, don’t be so lenient or you’ll suffer.”

Ying Mo—following Guo Shier—laughed and said, “Old Timer knows a lot. Indeed, every time I enter the city, I kill a few assholes. Robbing and killing are common in this place.”

Guo Shier digested what he heard. A long while later, he finally said, “There’s Uncle Ying Mo and Uncle Luo guarding me, I wouldn’t have to do it myself, would I?”

Luo Jie smiled. “That’s correct!”

***

Hou Chen lead the horses through the enormous West Rune City. Everyone rode at a gallop for a couple of hours before entering the Inner section of the West Rune Sect.

The Inner section was the most important location for any Sect. It was also the place where all professionals gathered.

Hou Chen brought everyone to the West Rune Sect guest reception and then later took his leave.

The person responsible for hospitality arranged a few courtyards for them.

Guo Shier was assigned his own courtyard, where his team of four children and two Marked Warrior Grandmasters could stay.

He went into the house and commanded the maids to start boiling water for a bath.

He was stuck in ice and snow for a month, and it was impossible to take a bath. He stunk. He was going to freak out if he didn’t get his bath.

Guo Shier jumped in the big wooden tub filled with hot water. He submerged his head in. The warm water made him relax all over.

But all of a sudden, innumerable runes flashed within his soul and quickly surrounded his Innate Rune Orb.

Surprised, Guo Shier gasped and unintentionally gulped the bath water. He jerked his head out, still panting and gagging.
Fortunately, he just got in and the water wasn’t as dirty yet. He still couldn’t help feeling sick at the thought of drinking it, though.

He willed himself to settle down and started to examine his soul.

His Innate Rune Orb was in chaos. Countless small runes were swirling and slowly attaching themselves to it. Gradually, the Innate Rune Orb stopped in the center his soul and no longer moved.

What did this mean?

Guo Shier didn’t understand what happened. He wanted to exhale out the Innate Rune Orb, but now it won’t budge and was fixed in the middle of the soul.

He was in a daze.

“I’m in trouble,” he said to himself. “If I want to use the Sword Glyph … what should I do?”

Just the thought of Sword Glyph caused a burning sensation in his eyes. Suddenly, two golden lines burst out from them.

The golden lines flew and caused a flurry of chaos. He was horrified. It was unknown to him that his eyes were controlling the direction of the flying Sword Glyph.

The house collapsed instantly with the power of the Sword Glyph. Scared and confused, he jumped head first back to tub. As he closed his eyes, the golden lines retreated.

Fortunately, this was a separate cabin. Additionally, Guo Shier was small, so he wasn’t’ hurt when the cabin collapsed.

This alerted the two Marked Warrior Grandmasters and they immediately came to rescue.

The maids waiting outside were trembling with fright. They realized that the kid in the bath was important.

They couldn’t understand why the cabin would collapse. More surprisingly, the culprit was the bathing child!

Ying Mo was very fast. A few punches smashed the crossbar. Luo Zhan’s face was livid and his foot flew out. His kick broke the coarse beams into two sections.

The two men joined together and quickly removed the wooden bracket from the top, revealing a large tub.

Everyone in the courtyard started watching.

Guo Shier was still submerged in the water. After a moment in the dark, his head popped. He stood up, but when he saw the courtyard full of people, he suddenly went back into the water and exclaimed, “Fuck! Dammit, I’m in the bath! Don’t look…”

Ying Mo and Luo Zhan were surprised for a moment. Everyone just stared at Guo Shier.

A while later, Ying Mo let out a strange laugh—and everyone started laughing, too.

Guo Shier was grieving. This made him lose a lot of face.

Qi Nanshan jumped from the next courtyard and shouted, “What’s going on?”

The laughter of the crowd got even louder.

  1. When Da-Shan make his apperance it is always one step slower. Thank you for the chaper. It is good to finally read it.. a bit odd though as it is not in “Fu” but “Runes”. I never realised fu is similar to runes.
